The Greenhouse, Dolben Street

Status: Completed and sold in 2010

Client: Developed by Association of Ideas with Dolben Street LLP

Location: London, UK.

The Greenhouse, so called for the colour of its bricks, not its sustainable performance – though it is excellent in that respect too.

The site was put up for sale in 2002 by Southwark Council as part of a programme -Sites for Sore Eyes – to regenerate small pockets of brownfield land, some of which had remained derelict since 1945.

31 Dolben Street was formerly two small Victorian houses and AOI eventually won permission to construct a six-storey apartment building with ground floor commercial space and roof top terrace. Every single square foot of site area was used in the footprint of the new block and the east elevation exactly follows the curve of the adjacent Bear Lane.

Each floor contains a three-bedroom, three-bathroom apartment, open plan living / kitchen / dining with sheltered balcony screened by sliding oak louvre shutters.

Best Housing Development 1 - 5 units, Brick Awards Winner 2011.
